The friction of the sealing surface of the globe valve is smaller than that of the gate valve, and it has the advantages of small opening height and suitable for high temperature media. The disadvantage is that the opening and closing torque is large, and it is not suitable for high temperature and high pressure media.
Relying on the pressure of the valve stem, the sealing surface of the disc and the sealing surface of the valve seat are closely attached to prevent the medium from flowing. The shut-off valve only allows the medium to flow in one direction and is directional when installed. The structural length of the shut-off valve is longer than that of the gate valve, and the fluid resistance is large, and the sealing reliability is not strong during long-term operation.
The stem of the globe valve generally moves up and down, and the hand wheel is fixed on the upper end of the stem. When the handwheel is turned clockwise, the valve stem drives the valve disc to move and close the valve.
According to the position of the trapezoidal thread of the valve stem, it can be divided into an upper threaded stem and a lower threaded stem. The trapezoidal thread of the upper threaded stem is located on the upper half of the stem; the trapezoidal thread of the lower threaded stem is located on the lower half of the stem. The upper threaded stem globe valve is convenient for maintenance and does not directly contact the medium. The total length of the lower thread globe valve is shorter, which can reduce the total height of the valve and facilitate installation.

As an important component of aerospace equipment, the shut-off valve realizes the functions of medium delivery, cut-off, and adjustment, and its sealing performance directly affects the safe and reliable operation of aerospace equipment.
Globe valves, so-called because of their outside shape, are widely used in plant piping. They are suitable for manual and automatic operation. Unlike the gate valve, globe valve can be used for regulating flow or pressures as well as complete shutoff of flow.
Gate valves are used for On-Off control while Globe valves are used for flow regulation. Gate valves offer little resistance to fluid flow in fully open position and also have small pressure drop across the valve. Is that correct? The globe valves are not.
The main difference between these two types is the way they close. A globe valve uses a plug (stem) that closes against the flow, and a ball valve has a gate (ball) that closes across the flow. Globe valves are good for regulating flow, whereas ball valves are better for on/off control without pressure drop.
